True love – created with love…

This artwork was brought to life by Lorraine, using pencil and charcoal.

Dog Portraits in Fancy Dress https://lorrainehughes-art.com/dog-portraits-in-fancy-dress/ https://lorrainehughes-art.com/dog-portraits-in-fancy-dress/#respond Sat, 26 Feb 2022 12:14:53 +0000 https://lorrainehughes-art.com/?p=667

An increasing number of people are asking Lorraine to paint their beloved dog in fancy dress! This style of painting breaks away from traditional ideas, and shows each pet in a highly personalised and eye-catching fashion.

Here are some of the popular search terms people use:

  • Pet Portraits as Royalty
  • Pet Portraits Dressed up
  • Pet Portraits in Costume
    Pet Portraits in Clothes
  • Pet Portraits in Uniform
  • Pet Portraits Jedi
  • Pet Portraits Queen
  • Pet Portraits King
  • Pet Portraits Renaissance
  • Pet Portraits As Viking
  • Pet Portraits Edwardian Style
  • Pet Portraits As Victorian

… and that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

There is a huge appetite for people to have their pets portrayed in particular styles, and wearing clothing from specific genres.

So, while making sure that the authenticity of the clothing can be clearly enjoyed, we must remember that these lovely animals are not with us for ever. In years to come, you’ll want to look at your painting and remember those facial expressions and the happiness of a wagging tail.

While painting your faithful canine friend in an outfit that reflects a desired effect, it’s important that the character of your dog shines through.

In a way, we are creating a parody, and a completely unnatural situation, as your dog has almost certainly never worn clothes in real life.
While we’re looking to have some fun and games with reality, perhaps it’s also a good idea to choose an outfit that is compatible with the breed and appearance of your dog.

When the paint is dry, and the pencils are back in their box, you will need to find a spot on a wall to place the artwork, where it can be seen and enjoyed. Although, some art lovers say that moving paintings around your home, can be a good way to get a fresh view and enjoy them more.

You will want to glance at your painting and smile with contentment, in the knowledge that if your dog could speak, you would receive confirmation that all was well.

In the absence of verbal acknowledgement, maybe the wag of a tail will do!

Memories of Loved Ones https://lorrainehughes-art.com/memories-of-loved-ones/ https://lorrainehughes-art.com/memories-of-loved-ones/#respond Wed, 19 Jan 2022 14:45:56 +0000 https://lorrainehughes-art.com/?p=601 The birth of a daughter or son, the arrival of beautiful grandchildren, or the celebration of a favourite family elder – these are moments to treasure.

It’s so easy to snap away with a camera, but you’ll likely be left with mountains of photos on your phone you may never look at again.

Taking a special image, turning it into a painting or drawing, and hanging it in a frame on the wall, means you have a permanent memory of a loved one in your life.

Lorraine Hughes is an accomplished artist, who hails from the seaside town of Eastbourne in the south of England.

It seems that newborn babies and those much loved mature relatives, are the ones that families are most keen to create permanent memories on canvas.

How to Place an Order for Artwork

You probably have photos from the past, or maybe you’d like something more current. Select your favourite photos and send them in to Lorraine, so she can get a feel of your relative’s character and personality.

You can discuss all these things with Lorraine, but you will need to decide whether your artwork is on 300 gsm paper or canvas.

You can decide how large or small you would like the artwork to be. You may have large expanses of wall space, which can take a sizeable canvas, or you may want something small and personal to fit on a bedside table.

Then there is the choice of paint or pencils. Paint could be slow drying oils or fast drying acrylic, and pencils can be grey graphite, or created using colour tones.

The choices are varied, and you can discuss all of these options with Lorraine.

Maybe you have a favourite uncle or aunt – perhaps a cherished grandparent, and you would like a constant reminder. Feeling the presence of someone special, can be a comfort, and a sense that your life is anchored, when so many things around are in a constant state of flux.

When your artwork arrives, and it’s displayed in a special place, it’s the next best thing to having that favourite friend or relative there in the room with you. As the years tick by, it’s good to remember loved ones that may no longer be with us. There will be youngsters coming along who maybe never met their grandparents or great-grandparents. The character of that face you know so well is captured for ever – a moment has been transformed into a forever memory…

Pets are special too!

While we’re talking about “nearest and dearest”… for many people, a dog is considered to be their best friend. Certainly your dog will have become another valued member of the family.

Depending on the breed, your faithful friend might live for 15 years or more. And it’s always a sad time when a dog passes on.

No more excited tail wagging at the mention of a walk. No more elated barking at the sound of your key in the door. And an empty rug in front of the fire, where a happy dog used to stretch out.

To keep those joyful memories alive, many people are now commissioning paintings and drawings of the dogs in their lives.

Lorraine Hughes is an accomplished artist, who left Ireland at the age of 2, but now hails from the seaside town of Eastbourne UK.

Lorraine creates her artwork using a variety of different media, including oils, acrylics, watercolours, and colour pencils.

She works principally as a commission artist, and having a soft spot for animals, she particularly enjoys creating artwork that pet lovers will cherish.

New Homes for Abandoned Animals

Lorraine’s pet portraits have received encouraging feedback from the dog owners she has worked for. She takes her love of animals to a place where she helps with charitable donations. By donating a portion of her earnings, she now gives funds to those kind souls who rescue and care for pets.

How it Works

Every pet portrait she completes, she donates part of her fee to an animal rescue centre, which help save and rehome animals that desperately need to find a new home complete with a forever family.

Your Pet Portrait Can Help Too

When you choose Lorraine as your artist to prepare a memorable pet painting or drawing, she will donate 15% of her fee to whichever animal charity you care to nominate. If you have no particular rescue centre in mind, Lorraine will make a donation in your name, to a needy animal charity, so they can continue their good work…

As a dog lover, she puts passion into her artwork, to deliver a memorable piece of art, that could be created in the style of your choosing… even your pet in fancy dress!

Here is some of Lorraine’s previous work, which you may find interesting, or inspiring…

Here’s a super fast time-lapse video showing a vibrant painting in oils of Eastbourne Pier. This is Lorraine’s home town, and the view from the beach shows a warm sky and a calm sea…

You could have a family member in mind, a well-known celebrity, or maybe a childhood sweetheart. Whatever you choose as your subject, it will undoubtedly be personal and meaningful.

It’s good to be reminded of special occasions, passions, and those who have been significant in your life.

Who will you choose to occupy a special place on the wall of your home?

This young couple, were pictured just before their marriage. This beautiful image could have been forgotten somewhere in Facebook, or on a phone. Instead, it’s a pencil and charcoal drawing hanging on a wall as a constant loving memory.

This lovely image lives on as a reminder of the days when life was less complicated, and the future was full of hope and dreams.

A Spanish dancer beautifully executing a fiery and passionate flamenco dance. You can almost hear acoustic guitars, accompanied by the stamping of feet and the fast rhythmic clapping of hands.

Could that remind you of a vacation in Seville? Does this painting evoke memories of tapas and dry sherry ?

Perhaps you took a break somewhere else. A family holiday, a honeymoon, or a wonderful getaway with friends…

Maybe you want the painting of your dog to appear happy and adorable, sitting contentedly on a rug in front of the fire.

But a surprising number of people quite like the idea of their dog being dressed up and turned into a piece of stylised artwork. It’s still their dog, but the painting becomes a conversation piece.

I will paint or draw your pet in any style your imagination takes you…

Remember that party? Wild crazy dancing all night. You were a student and you danced till you dropped. Now, life is quieter and your children are growing up, but it’s good to remember those wild carefree days.

Lorraine was chosen to create this evocative painting of a young female singer, as a gift for her birthday from her dad. Her father wanted his daughter to have a lasting memory of her performance, when she sang on stage. Her music from that live performance was turned into an album, and Lorraine transformed the album cover image into a lasting memory.

Instead of a dusty album cover out of sight in a drawer, now there’s a timeless reminder of a young girls achievement for all to enjoy.

This is the essence of turning passing moments into unforgettable memories…

Why not ask Lorraine what artwork she can create for you.

Your Pet Portrait Rescues Another Pet https://lorrainehughes-art.com/your-pet-portrait-rescues-another-pet/ https://lorrainehughes-art.com/your-pet-portrait-rescues-another-pet/#respond Thu, 02 Dec 2021 20:59:37 +0000 https://lorrainehughes-art.com/?p=486

When you order a painting or drawing of your pet from Lorraine, she will donate 15% of the purchase price in your name, to support the animal charity of your choice.

This is a win-win for you and the animal rescue centre you support. You and your family will turn a moment in the life of your pet, into a memory that will live for ever.

There are many animal charities out there, and they all do good work. But so many of them struggle for funds to keep on doing their good work.

The money donated in your name will go towards food, veterinary fees, and all the many incidental costs required to keep animals happy and healthy, until they are claimed by a loving new owner. This is the point where a rescue dog starts to reap the benefits of a new life, assisted by your donation.

Animal charities do amazing work. They are often run by volunteers, and the costs of maintaining premises, food, and essential veterinary care for animals who may have come from difficult circumstances, can be high.

How will my artwork look?

Firstly, make contact with Lorraine through the contact form on this website. You can ask for information, discuss whether you’d like a painting or a drawing, and get a quote.

This time-lapse video shows an oil painting of “Luna” – a beautiful dog, and the finished artwork is a lasting memory of a loving family member…

How you can get things moving…

You should take a number of clear digital photos of your pet will either a camera or your phone. Close-ups are good, your pet looking directly into the camera will be an excellent  choice, so the character of your pet can shine through into the artwork.

Perhaps you might take images in a number of different poses. This will help Lorraine to bring out the character of your smallest family member!

What else should I do?

What size would you like your artwork to be? Does it need to fit on a wall where there is a size restriction, or do you have ample space to display the finished work.

Are you thinking in terms of a painting or a drawing? If it drawing, would you prefer graphite pencil, or coloured pencil?

If you decide a painting is right for you, this can be done in oils or acrylic paint. Also, the final piece could be on artwork paper or canvas.

All of these things you can discuss with Lorraine, and she will help you to arrive at the best style that will give you a lasting memory

Don’t forget to let Lorraine know which animal charity, or rescue centre you would like to receive the donation of 15% of the purchase price.
